In the Hills of Live Oaks
Six miles of coastline and about 20 square miles of land is found in Encinitas which is bordered by Carlsbad, Rancho Santa Fe, and Solana Beach. Gaspar de Portola must have been in awe when he saw this area. Because of the oaks he could see in the hills, he named the spot Encina Canada which means Hills of Live Oaks in Spanish.
Incorporated in 1986, Encinitas five communities converged to form the city of Encinitas. Although they came together, each community still maintained their own uniqueness and identity. It is for this reason that residents of Encinitas real estate are of a diverse variety. Shady streets, surf haven beaches, a natural environment, and modern commerce mingle in perfect harmony that is blended together to give you Encinitas.
Picturesque cottages lazily rest amidst eucalyptus trees while lavish homes enjoy views of the Pacific in the Isle of Paradise known as Leucadia. More than a hundred years of history greets you as you swing by the shops and significant architecture in Old Encinitas. A world of contrast to the old is New Encinitas which has experienced swift growth through the years and has a more modern feel. When October comes along, join the 50,000 plus residents of the city as they take part in the lively Oktoberfest in Olivenhain, a celebration of the German heritage of that area. Hit the surf at Swami's Beach or revel at views of the ocean from your home in Cardiff by the Sea.
Whether you're into golf, surfing, swimming, relishing the arts, a life of peace and solitude, or watching the flowers bloom, Encinitas will grab you.
