From San Miguel to San Diego
For the longest time, well before all the great investment property opportunities in San Diego appeared, groups of people have been migrating there for centuries. Even before the first European set foot in the region and prior to the existence of the stylish homes for sale in San Diego, the Yuman and Shoshonean peoples, including the Ipai and Kumeyaay group, were comfortably settled in the vast land. They delighted in the resplendent nature that bestowed upon them bountiful resources for nourishment and survival.
Miles upon miles of beaches greeted Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo on September 1542 as his ship sailed into San Diego Bay. He claimed the land for the King of Spain and dubbed it San Miguel. Just about 60 years later, explorer Sebastian Vizcaíno was sent to map the harbor and subsequently named the area for Spanish Catholic saint, San Diego de Alcalá. The name stuck, and it is for this reason that San Diego is called such.
Military posts, missions, and battles have all grazed the city. Soon the population grew and development expanded, giving rise to California's second biggest city that is now home to more than a million. Skyscrapers, snazzy hotels, boutiques, and scrumptious dining options litter Downtown San Diego providing a stark contrast to the wealth of wildlife and endangered species found in the area. The mild yet sunny weather that kisses the city each day of every year lures visitors and those who want to relocate to this patch of earth that smiles upon the azure Pacific Ocean.
